I'm a little teapot : how seasonal trends will work their sneaky little way into my wardrobe.

Chintzware, originally uploaded by Majlee.

I feel like a fraud wearing floral prints. They are way to optimistic for my cynical nature. Or perhaps, I don't feel like I fit in with the floral-wearing crowd.

This coming spring's floral prints are reminding me a bit of chintzware. Small floral patterns, usually paper with a clear glaze on a tea set. The china was manufactured between 1920's and 50's, and now, I guess they are some kind of cult tableware.

I remember the first time I laid eyes on chinzware, I was in high school, and was then fascinated by collage, I could still wear florals back then... you know the early 90's with floral baby-doll dresses and floppy hats with huge flowers. Blossom. As much as I think flowers are pretty, I'm having a hard time visualizing how to personalize this trend. If you can call floral prints a 'trend'. I think they've been around almost as long as hand prints in caves.

Often times what I do, is go around the internet, looking at images that speak to me... ie. the chintzware... a painting, some dresses... other bloggers. Photographs usually help organize my own imagination.

Look, the lady above is wearing my tights, even the ones I'm wearing today. Hmm... maybe I can wear that dress...

And also, looking for things that I can afford. I know I'm not going to score a dress from the Balenciaga SSo8 line. I don't know if I'll even see one in real life. But since I have a budget, and blogging doesn't really pull in the big bucks I can find things I am comfortable purchasing. Once the desire starts to grow, I'll be able to integrate florals back into my wardrobe.

Despite my latest experimentation with florals, the point is I can't wear them in a chintzy way so I have to do it in a different way that is apt for me... so whilst mumsy/chintzy floral may not be for you... perhaps graphic/sharper florals are?

Oh it's so tempting: I saw some lovely turquoise heels in a sale yesterday, but put them back at the last minute because I spend too much on clothes, and I didn't really have anything to wear with them.
Now I'm thinking they'd be perfect with a floral dress and white tights...

hee hee, love your thoughts on how floral prints have been around as long as hand prints in caves!! I've never been into them much either, but I have been attracted to them lately and bought a top with tiny yellow/orange flowers on it. It works for me because it's not super girly and pink!
