Typically, I'm not a handbag type girl... it's not my thing. I've never bought a nice handbag, I've lusted over some, but in an imaginary kind of way... the truth is, I'd rather not spend a ton of money on a bag. But recently, I've been thinking it's time to get a nice handbag, just because, it adds to the whole ensemble of street attire.
So, here are my requirements,
1. under $500
2. leather
3. looks amazing
4. city friendly ie. secure closures, can be worn on shoulder
5. preferably handmade
I found the above Antoinette Lee, Besa Stitch Hobo on Stars and Infinite Darkness. It fits most of the requirements, and it's $429. It's 19"w X 11"h (7" handle drop), I think that's big enough?
Arrgh... I speculate... and ponder over the handbag thing....

7 lovely notes...:
Ooo, loving this. A 7" drop should be big enough though I tend to go for at least 9" to try and get that swing-it-over-the-shoulder ease--as opposed to having to scrunch it up there.
helenmarien.com is a website for a very cool handbag store in nolita in nyc. the bags are handmade, and i think you are still able to pick the leathers for the trim, the bag itself (i'm not sure about sale items, however). i think the actual shop may have closed, but you can still get on-line and they are having a sale. you can read about helen on the site. i've met her and had dinner with her and she is a fabulous person. anyway, helenmarien.com for a handmade bag by a very city-savvy lady.
oh thanks ambika for the tip, i have no idea where to begin with, drop, width, hght... blah blah blah
thanks anonymous... i like the shapes, but it's not really my style!

i love antoinette lee..we have such similar tastes! i was going to sell her in my new boutique but she wants to be an independent retailer online so i suppor that...i think white is so fresh going into the new year..great pick and dont forget to browse Indie Coterie now that everything is half off lol

i think i have my eye on one...

Have you ever tried Tano bags? They're my favorite...great leather (mostly distressed), beautiful jewel-toned colors, and a huge selection--mostly under $300. http://www.tanobag.com/
i was just going to suggest tano bags too! they're gorgeous and come in really great colors.
